Top of the Day – Backyard Performances

Day backyard.jpg

I host two recurring backyard performances.  Although there are significant differences between the two, both have the same secret garden setting, both have killer views of the bay, both have easy (hill) parking, both offer at least one homemade dish, both have the opportunity to run late with seats around a bonfire.   In short, both performances are meant to foster community in a city that is swiftly losing its writers, artists and performers to locations further away.  Here is what you will find at these performances:

  1. Mashup Up the Hill – By definition a mashup is a fusion or mix of various elements.  This series aims to do that.  Each event features 4-8 performances of the following: poetry, fiction, nonfiction, comedy, music, visual art, dance, and whatever else you want to throw my way.  This series is booked in advance, and asks for a donation of $10 to offset performers’ costs.
  2. Show,Taste or Tell – This is a modern twist on show & tell.  It’s essentially an open mic -but Everyone has to participate.  If you don’t have a skill you feel warrants time on stage, bring a dish to share (preferably without tree nuts – [Allergy Allert]).  You can bring your poetry, music, contortion, what-have-you.  Depending on the number of attendees, you’ll get 3-8 minutes.
